Welcome to Class McGough
Here is our Spring Class Newsletter – 2022 – Spring Newsletter
Welcome back into Year 1 and 2 in 2022!
In our class we have our teacher Miss McGough and our wonderful teaching assistant Mrs McGuinness.
We have 21 children in our class!
This term in…
In English we will begin our term by looking at the traditional tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’ – we will huff and puff and blow off the January cobwebs by retelling the story and acting as the characters. We will then move onto two totally contrasting but equally wonderful books by Julia Donaldson – ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ and ‘Superworm’. We will be focussing on using a wide variety of punctuation this term and making sure our sentences are interesting and exciting! Year 1 will continue to have a heavy phonics focus on a morning but we are currently transitioning into our new programme – Sounds-Write. Year 2 are getting lots of reading comprehension and GPS practice in as well as their phonics too!
In Maths we will be focusing on Shape, Multiplication and Division, Fractions and Measurement: Length and Height, Weight and Volume. We are enjoying looking at NCETM’s Mastering Number and improving our quick fire recall of facts the ten currently. It is our aim to become more proficient / fluent at applying our math skills in problem solving and mathematical reasoning.
In Science, we will be covering Everyday Materials and Plants this term.
In Geography and History, we will be exploring Weather and the Great Fire of London.
In Art and Design, we will be focusing upon Superheroes – use of multimedia. We will be learning how to use our sketchbooks too.
Reading – Each child has an individual reading book and reading record. Reading of any type is very important, as we only become good writers if we are good readers! Please encourage regular reading at home. Children are given a book at their reading level in Accelerated Reader. When complete, children complete a quiz about the book. This will encourage children to read for understanding. Only some of our Year 2 children are accessing this program.
- P.E will take place on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure that children are wearing appropriate P.E kit to school as we might be outdoors.
- Toast or a snack will be available each morning before first break. If you would like your child to receive this, the cost will be £1.00 a week.
- Any letters, which need to be returned, can be placed in your child’s book bag and we will encourage children to check them before registration.
- Spellings will be given out on a Tuesday and practised thoroughly within class time as well as sending them home! Our test is on the following Tuesday.
