Year 1 and 2
Welcome to Class McGough
Welcome back after a lovely Summer off- here’s to lots of hard work this Autumn term!
In our class we have our teacher Miss McGough and our wonderful teaching assistant Mrs McGuinness. At the moment, we also have the lovely Miss Crouch helping us out.
We have 27 children in our class!
This term is often a challenging transition – particularly for our Year 1 children! Lots of encouragement and positivity is needed.
This term in…
English we will begin our term by looking at ourselves and diving under the sea with Only One You! A book all about being unique and individual. Then we will be spending some time looking at Bunny Loves to Read delving into books about princes and princesses, dinosaurs, witches and wizards and last but not least books about Pirates! We will be revisiting Phase Three with our phonics to really cement those sounds and will move onto Phase Four!
Maths we are looking at Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Shape and Money. We are enjoying practicing our ‘Rock Star’ tables; trying to improve our speed with our times tables. It is our aim to become more proficient / fluent at applying our maths skills in problem solving and mathematical reasoning.
Science we will be covering animals including humans and plants this term.
In Geography and History we will be exploring where we are from, our local area, our school and our history. We will be thinking about mining and the War.
Reading – Each child has an individual reading book and reading record. Reading of any type is very important as we only become good writers if we are good readers! – Please encourage regular reading. We have just introduced a new reading process into school ‘Accelerated Reader’. Children are given a book at their reading level. When complete, children complete a quiz about the book. This will encourage children to read for understanding.
- P.E will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that children have their P.E kits in school and that all items of clothing are labelled.
- Toast or a snack will be available each morning before first break. If you would like your child to receive this the cost will be £1.00 a week.
- Any letters which need to be returned can be placed in your child’s book bag and we will encourage children to check them before registration.
