Welcome to Class 6
Welcome back after the Summer holidays.
In our class we have our teacher Mrs Dennis and our amazing teaching assistant Miss Herring!
Class 6 is a mixed age class of year 5 and 6 pupils.
This is obviously an extremely important time for our year 6 pupils as it is their final year in primary school and they will be taking their SAT’s in May. Year 5 pupils are equally as important and it is a big responsibility being in the top class! We will all be working very hard throughout this year to do the best we can!
This term in…
English we have based our work around the wonderful book ‘War Horse’ written by Michael Morpurgo. Using this we are studying historical texts, diaries, letters, non-chronological reports, narratives and much more!
Maths we are looking at our four operations, fractions, decimals, shape, angles, mental methods. We are enjoying practising our ‘Rock Star’ tables; trying to improve our speed with our times tables. It is our aim to become more proficient / fluent at applying our maths skills in problem solving and mathematical reasoning.
Science we are taking a look at Living things and their habitats especially classification and then Electricity.
History is linked to English and we will be researching facts about WW1.
Art we are taking a look at the work of Paul Nash as we look at some of the visual representations of WW1.
Geography involves looking at some of the countries that were involved in WW1, where they are situated geographically and the features of those countries.
Spellings are given out on a Thursday and our test will be on the following Thursday – it is extremely important that children practise and learn these.
Each child has an individual reading book and reading record. Reading of any type is very important as we only become good writers if we are good readers! Please encourage regular reading.
