Welcome to Class 3,
An exciting place to be.
I hope you have had a lovely time over the summer and I am sure you are now ready to start the new school year, so welcome to Year 2!
I am looking forward to getting to know you and working together so that we have a very exciting and productive year. I hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 2 has to offer!
Transition from Year 1 to Year 2
Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from Year 1 to Year 2. The Year 2 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Year 1. Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day, and the children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners.
If you have any questions or queries don’t hesitate to come and see me either before or after school.
Reading/Spelling in Year 2…
Your child will be given a book and a reading diary to bring home and read. They will need to keep their reading diary and books in their book bags to bring to school every day. The children will be heard read individually twice per week by Mrs McGuinness or myself and possibly by our reading volunteers in between. They will also have group guided reading sessions throughout the week.
Spellings will be tested on a Friday.
- The children have PE on Monday and Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that all items are clearly labelled. We encourage children to practise getting dressed at home to help them get changed quickly in school!
- Any letters or reply slips, which need to be returned, can be put in your child’s book bag. The children are encouraged to check them each morning and give things in after the register. Toast money is £1 per week and part of this money goes towards providing additional activities and resources for your child in Class 3.
