Year 1 and 2
Welcome to Class McGough
Welcome back, let’s work hard this Spring term!
In our class we have our teacher Miss McGough. We often get help from the wonderful Mrs Brown and Mrs McGuinness!
In our class we have 17 Year 2 pupils and 9 Year 1 pupils.
This is obviously an extremely important time for our Year 2 pupils as they will be taking their KS1 SATS at the end of this year. Our Year 1 pupils will also be taking part in their Phonics Screening so lots of hard work will be taking place this term. Let’s keep up our brilliant, hard working attitudes!
This term in…
English we will be basing our work around the book ‘Bunny Loves to Read’. Bunny loves to read lots of stories from Pirates to Dinosaurs, Witches and Wizards and Fairy Tales. We will be delving in to all of the different story types over the coming weeks and will hopefully capture imagination to develop our creative writing. We will also be working hard with our Reading skills and Phonics sessions.
Maths we are looking at Money, Multiplication and Division and ending on Place Value and Statistics. We are enjoying practising our ‘Rock Star’ tables; trying to improve our speed with our times tables. It is our aim to become more proficient / fluent at applying our maths skills in problem solving and mathematical reasoning.
Science we will be covering Materials and Our Environment this term.
Geography is about ‘Our World’. We will be covering Map Skills and recognising Oceans, Continents and Seas. We will be learning all about Asia and taking a look at Africa too, recognising the similarities and differences between our country/ continent and theirs.
Spellings are given out on a Monday and are tested on the Friday – it is extremely important that children practise and learn these.
Reading – Each child has an individual reading book and reading record. Reading of any type is very important as we only become good writers if we are good readers! – Please encourage regular reading. We have just introduced a new reading process into school ‘Accelerated Reader’. Children are given a book at their reading level. When complete, children complete a quiz about the book. This will encourage children to read for understanding.
- P.E will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that children have their P.E kits in school and that all items of clothing are labelled.
- Toast or a snack will be available each morning before first break. If you would like your child to receive this the cost will be £1.00 a week.
- Any letters which need to be returned can be placed in your child’s book bag and we will encourage children to check them before registration.
